Extreme Makeover Number 9 for Superior Walls 4 January '08
Superior Walls featured again on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition January 04th, 2008 | Category: Corporate News, Franchise News, Television Author: crmartin Superior Walls is once again being featured as the foundation for another Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. This is the 9th home that Extreme has built that includes a Superior Walls foundation. Superior Walls by Central Virginia of Amelia, VA produced the 9 foot Xi wall panels that were part of the home built for Virginia Army National Guard Spc. Michael Lucas and his family. Virginia Army National Guard Spc. Michael Lucas was building his dream home near Rice (in Prince Edward County) when his unit was mobilized. The land is on what contractor Ken Broadwater of Cartersville describes as “one of the most famous battlefields of the Civil War”. Spc. Lucas is on active duty with the 3rd Battalion, 116th Infantry in Iraq, where his unit’s duties include convoy security. Spc. Lucas’ wife Jean and 6 and 11-year-old sons remained in a rented home in Cullen, Charlotte County. His younger son, Joseph, has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Spc. Lucas already has “an extensive collection of historical artifacts, photos, letters, clothing, and pistols from the region and would love to put them on display for the public to see,” says the Broadwater website. He is “currently writing a book about the battle of High Bridge, which took place on the recently purchased land for his family’s home.” This was Superior Walls’ ninth Extreme Makeover, though the first for Virginia. “This was good for us,” Jim Avery said. “We had the opportunity to work with a lot of different contractors, fast and furious. It was good experience for our guys to cooperate with so many different people and trades on a very tight project. We made a lot of friends, during their 22-hour time on the job. It was a long day, but it’s for a good cause. With what [Michael Lucas] is doing for the county, he deserves all the support we can give.” This episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, a two hour special featuring many contractors and volunteers from Amelia and surrounding counties, will be broadcast Feb. 24 or March 2 on the ABC network.
